HAYWARD, Calif. – November 25, 2003 - Signature Wines, a premier provider of custom label wines and distinctive wine labels for businesses and individual consumers, announced its Blackridge Canyon wines have received over 40 gold, silver and bronze medals in wine competitions throughout the year.
Most recently, the Blackridge Canyon Napa Series Chardonnay and Napa Series Merlot both won Gold medals in the American Wine Society’s Commercial Wine Competition, which took place in November in Greenwich, Connecticut. The Blackridge Canyon Signature Series Chardonnay and Signature Series Merlot were also awarded Bronze medals at the same competition.
Different from wine ratings or scores, wine judging honors wines of distinction with medals that designate exceptional wines in various categories – including appellation, vintage, varietal and retail price. Wine judging is a way to give accolades to winemakers while stimulating consumer interest in wine. This interest in turn generates demand and encourages winemakers to produce their best.
Thousands of wines from hundreds of wineries are judged at each competition. Judging panels typically include well-known winemakers, restaurateurs, wine store representatives, noted wine writers, educators, and recognized wine connoisseurs. To win an award is the mark of a truly exceptional quality wine.
The Blackridge Canyon Napa Series wines have taken home 23 medals to date, including two Gold medals for the Napa Series Merlot. The grapes are grown in the heart of Napa Valley, where warm daytime temperatures tempered by morning and evening fog provide excellent soils to create wines that are rich and distinctive.
The Blackridge Canyon Signature Series have earned 18 individual awards, including the Concordance Gold. These wines come from the Sacramento River Delta and Sierra Nevada foothills, where the combination of warm days and cool nights during ripening provides the grapes with just the right amount of acidity.
Signature Wines’ new Henehan Hills Zinfandel was also entered into the VinoChallenge International and won a silver medal. Expect this great tasting wine to be entered into more competitions in 2004.
Signature Wines has participated in the following prestigious competitions since February of 2003: Grand Harvest Awards, Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, San Diego National Wine Competition, LA County Fair (also known as the “granddaddy of wine judging events”), International Eastern Wine Competition, El Dorado County Fair, San Francisco International Wine Competition, Indy International Wine Competition, the Long Beach Grand Cru, VinoChallenge International, and the American Wine Society Commercial Wine Competition. At least one varietal from the Blackridge Canyon series wines has won in every competition they’ve been entered.
