Join The Zoological Lighting Institute™ in celebrating the potential of culture and science to protect birds, at the Enlightened Vineyards™ Sunset Reception/Dinner for Save a Billion Birds!™ to be held at the beautiful Paradise Ridge Winery Russian River Valley Estate just north of San Francisco.

Site of the Nagasawa Historical Exhibit and Conversations in Sculpture, Paradise Ridge Winery is the perfect place for conversation, cameraderie and celebration. Save a Billion Birds!™ is particularly interested in celebrating the potential of international and cultural dialogue to solve the deadly challenge of bird collisions with architectural windows. Creative interpretation of architectural heritage across Asia is vital to promoting understanding of how glass-free architecture has already been achieved, and how interpretation of such traditions can serve to improve the built environment for community health, safety and welfare around the globe today.

The ecological and social challenges we are addressing are considerable. Every year, literally billions of birds are killed as they fly into glass windows (about 10% of all birds). Despite the familiarity of this (most of us will recall a bird flying into our own windows), relatively little has been done.

The Zoological Lighting Institute™ believes that research in the arts and sciences are necessary to fix the problem, but also that solutions can be pursued that enrich good design rather than lapsing into 'concessions' to a harsh necessity. Enlightened Vineyards™ is a project of our Save a Billion Birds!™ Campaign that celebrates the good things in life, and we are proud to host the event in Paradise Ridge Winery, that itself serves as a stellar example of the local value of international conversation.
